Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice (Donut Love)

Today has been a jolly day.

And it's only 11:21.

I woke up to sunshine (leave it to California to be sunny in the winter) and went downstairs to relax on the couch in the sun with my kitties.

My family doesn't like to have breakfast too early--everyone wakes up at different times on Saturday and so the people who get up first (usually my dad and brother) just don't eat until everyone else gets up (my other brother, me, and then my mom.) And then my dad will make breakfast or, more often than not, we will all just munch and do our own things.

But today was different.

Today, my mom made breakfast. She usually doesn't make le petit dejeuner (on special occasions and such) because she makes dinner. So it was a real treat when she declared that she had a surprise for breakfast. Her friend sent her a recipe for some easy donuts made from Pillsbury dinner rolls that you fry in oil, roll in butter, and top with cinnamon and sugar. I helped her out and....well, see for yourself:

They were good. I mean soooooooo good. Like I could eat a hundred of them and still not be full. DELICIOUS!!! DELIGHTFUL! AMAZING! (I am listening to Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride right now from Lilo and Stitch :)

They were soft and chewy and buttery and cinnamony (is that a word? It should be!) The donut holes are in the center of the donut. We fried those and buttered and cinnamoned those up too. Oh they were good. Oh so good. Swooning....

They are so easy and so absolutely mouth watering!!!

One donut hole is missing because it took a tumble to it's doom...so that's why that donut is missing it's middle. :( Such a pity for a good donut hole to go to waste....(weep weep)

I am in donut heaven :)

Go on and take one, won't you? I see you eyeballing those donut holes...

I've saved one just for you :)

I hope your days are filled with cinnamon and sugar :)

Have a most wonderful Saturday!

xoxo Jess

P.S. Don't be a stranger--take one!

  1. Why do you do this to me!? The day I go to the grocery store and decide, no, will not buy any cakes or treats this time. I am DYING for one of these. I must say, you're getting quite the foodie blog reputation here ;)

Everyone in my house (except me) is on a New Year's resolution diet. So no one will be baking or cooking sweets like this unfortunately. But I think I can get a fruit roll up from the kitchen... it will have to do I guess haha.

So glad you had such a brilliant breakfast. I am JEALOUSSSS! Haha, I love how you said the donut hole fell to it's doom. I seriously laughed so hard at that.

Well, off to get some creating in before tomorrow's homework day.

    See you later alligator,
    Jenn
