Candyland!

I have a huge sweet tooth. I love sweets of all kind and could probably live off of cake. Once I got so full of sweets that I craved salt and told myself I would never eat cake again. Guess what? The next day I went right back to those cake pops...

What about you? Are you a savory or sweet person? My mom would much rather have savory than sweet, and so would my brother, but my dad and I lean towards the sweet end of the scale, especially when it comes to breakfast foods.

"The candy man makes everything he bakes, satisfying and delicious."

This is stuck in my head right now. Go figure, right?

Tonight I was in the mood to bake. So I grabbed a yellow cake recipe that I found in one of my recipe cooks.

These are the cakes when they first came out of the oven. I like to bake them in four inch pans because I just like working with small cakes as opposed to bigger ones. Le Petit Gateau!

And then...well, I colored some frosting with maraschino cherry juice and frosted my cakes and some cupcakes with the icing along with sprinkles and cherries. You can never have too many sprinkles, if you ask me!!

So yes, take me to candyland, friends! When it comes to sweets I really just can't restrain myself.

What are your favorite sweets?

This reminds me of the sweets inside a gingerbread house. If you saw a gingerbread house in the forest, would you be tempted to approach? I might...as long as I had a weapon or something to get rid of the witch inside. Then again...it's best if we just imagine that I would be brave enough to approach a gingerbread house.

By the way, can anyone tell me what the moral of Hansel and Gretel is? Don't all fairy tales teach you a lesson? Hansel and Gretel doesn't really have a lesson.

Maybe the lesson is to eat sweets? I like that lesson!

I really want to start a bakery when I get older (I already have the logo picked out and the name and everything) and I just think it would be so neat to have my own patisserie. I love baking and making little treats for others to enjoy. It would be a great job!

Cupcakes make me smile. Birthday cake sprinkles make me float with joy. I love sweets.
Bliss.

Who doesn't love maraschino cherries? I could eat an entire jar! (That's not advised, it's not exactly a healthy choice...but it's soooo good and you only live once....)

What can I say? I'm only human. Cakes and candies galore...they take me to a good place. To a Wonderland with edible grass and Mad Tea Parties every day! (And a no-gaining-weight limit, too. :)

What if it rained sprinkles? And you had a patisserie in your house? I would be in heaven :)

Then again, I already am. Mmmm, so gooood. :)))

Have a great Friday :)

xoxo Jess

P.S. As far as my last post goes...well, it felt so good to just vent my feelings and I appreciate your supporting comments so much. And things have gotten better already :) Plus, how can you not smile while watching this?

  1. Allo Mademoiselle!

What beautiful cakes you have baked and decorated! I loveeee them. I want to eat them but I am afraid they wouldn't survive the trip all the way here ;)

I have to be honest though, I am really much more of a savoury person. I would choose a steak and potatoes over a cake ANY day. I don't know why... I claim it's because in a past life I suffered through the Irish famine. And really, all they probably wanted was a good meal, not a piece of cake. I just woke up... so hungry now!

There are some desserts I can NOT resist (after a good savoury meal of course). Ice cream cake from Dairy Queen, and any of the desserts from the bakery section at Wal Mart. I don't know why but Wal Mart makes the best cupcakes. And eclairs. I LOVE eclairs. Especially when the dessert isn't too sweet, and I hate chocolate ice cream or cake. Haha, aren't you glad you know all about my food preferences now?! LOL!

The funniest thing is that I googled maraschino cherries the other day, because I wanted to know exactly what they were and how they're made. I'm such a nerd.

Hansel and Gretel was written at a time when the "woods" were inhabited by hobos and gypsies and the like. So when people wrote fairy tales, they were trying to keep their children out of the woods. This is why fairy tales like Little Red Riding Hood and Hansel and Gretel exist. I think the moral is to avoid the woods, because you will be eaten (haha), and not to go with strangers.

Just my thoughts on it. Still, that cake scene haunts my dreams! I will be boshing out a blog post today because it's Friday, and hopefully I will be finished the elfin house by then. Hopefully!

    Lots of love,
    Jenn

  2. A spoon full of sugar with icing and a maraschino cherry (or five) on top makes the medicine really go down ;o)
So glad you are feeling better! Your bakery treasure looks soooooo yummy!
    Have a great day.
    Always, Queenie
